Are There Any Health Benefits from White Wine?
September 6, 2010
We cannot deny the fact that red wine gets all the attention when it comes to wines and health benefits. In fact, studies have been conducted on red wines alone to look at its properties and what makes them beneficial to the human body. However, we should not forget that white wines, too, offers a lot of health benefits and more. Let us enumerate the many benefits that white wine gives.
One, white wines also have properties that greatly lessen the risk of heart attacks in a patient already suffering from high cholesterol and blood vessel problems. In fact, this is the biggest health benefit that white wines offer people.
For people who regularly drink a glass or two a day of white wine, they experience some lessening of the tightening sensations on the chest. This is because the heart is receiving more blood due to the effects of the white wine. White Wine, just like red wine, also has components that lower the bad cholesterol levels and increase the good cholesterol levels. It contains enzymes that help prevent blood clots from coagulating and thickening, and it prevents fatty deposits from sticking to the blood vessel walls and causing problems like decreased blood flow.
Two, white wine promotes good blood flow, and with a good flow, the incidence of a stroke or a heart attack occurring is lessened. The organ systems receive an adequate supply of oxygenated blood, and the unoxygenated blood is also transported in a very efficient manner because of the good blood flow and clot-free and fatty deposit-free blood vessels.
Three, white wines also contain antioxidants, and these antioxidants that came from the grapes help in the reduction of cancer development like ovarian cancer for women. Aside from reducing the risk of cancer development, the antioxidants are also good for the pulmonary system as it helps improve the lungs’ functions.
Other benefits that the white wine gives include stronger bones as well as elimination of bacteria that can cause ulcers.
With these many health benefits from white wine though, you should remember that white wine is not a cure-all remedy for all your health problems. This will not treat all your health problems nor will it stop stroke or heart attack from happening. What white wine will do is to only reduce the risk and help your body function properly. It is still very much recommended that you follow your doctor’s orders like drinking your maintenance medications and going for regular checkups. It is also advisable that you ask for the medical opinion of your family physician first if it is okay for you to drink a glass or two of white wine a day.
